Top 5 skull villains from the 80’s cartoons

I’m an 80’s man. I born in the eighties, I was a witness of the cartoon evolution. Transformers, G.I.Joe, Ninja Turtles and many others were created in that time, when I was little. By my account, the 80’s were the golden era of cartoons, at least actionwise. I remember many awesome cartoons, half american, half japanese, mostly filled with action and villains from all over the universe and alternate universes.

Many of the heroes and villains you follow now a days were created or became famous in the eighties. Between those villains, some of them have a skull image, or have skull motifs. These are the ones we are going to talk about in this article. It makes sense that skulls are villains or are a representation of them because a skull image is rapidly related to death, also is wired in our DNA to fear or to be caution when you see a skull. So what happens if you combine a scary name, with a skull image and bad intentions for humankind? You have a goddamn super villain if you ask me!

Here we have the top 5 cartoons with skull villains that Tokebi the Skull artist knows, likes or remembers. Please let me know if I miss your favorite, in the comments below.

Skull Villain 5: Stampede – Bravestarr

Set up in a multi cultural desert planet called New Texas and with a combination of science fiction and western elements this cartoon talks about a native american superheroe that invoke the power of animal spirits to kick some skull villains ass. Even though the main rival is another dude, the boss of bosses in Bravestarr is a massive and monstrous broncosaur skull who lead from his chambers. This massive skull villain barely appears in battle but is always the main creator of his subordinates’ evel plans. This gigantic skull villain seems to be made of skull, metal and some other type of material. We included this villain skull because of this massive size.

Skull Villain 4: Prime Evil – Ghostbusters

Although these aren’t the famous Ghostbusters we know, they were somewhat famous thanks to their previous Live-Action show. A gorilla and a bunch of weird characters go against Prime Evil and his subordinates. Prime Evil is a wizard with a metallic skull and android features, designed to resemble Mumm-Ra from the Thundercats. This robot like skull is a badass villain, he has many powers including shoot energy bolts out of his fingers. This skull villain travels in time to have his revenge against the Ghostbusters. I added this skull villain as number 4, because he is kind of a pussy sometimes.

Skull Villain 3: Hordak – She-Ra

She-Ra is He-Man’s twin sister. She is the leader of a rebellious group that fights to free their realm from Hordak. Hordak was modelled from African witch doctor masks and is depicted with a bony and pale face, pointy bony ears, wears a collar of bones and his logo is a big red bat symbol. He was betrayed by Skeletor and now he wants revenge. I remember Hordak was more scary than Skeletor, and has a very angry temper. I don’t really know if that’s could called a skull-faced villain, but since he has bunch of bones and pale face, I incline myself more to believe he has a skull face, but an alien one.

Skull Villain 2: Red Skull – Captain America

Everybody knows Red Skull thanks to Marvel’s movies, even though he was portrayed too sane or too weak at some degree compared of what he is of what he is capable of. The Red Skull had a very troubled mind and Hitler noticed it, he shared Hitler’s thoughts so he decided to train him personally. Hitler gave Red Skull a unique suit and command him to create propaganda and chaos in Europe, which he did so good, the US had to create their own, Captain America.  Red Skull was then trapped in a bombed area, exposed to experimental gas and he stayed in suspended animation until he was rescued by HYDRA and made it his own. Red Skull went all the way to the White House. He is a baddass villain, a baddass skull, and red my favorite color.

Skull Villain 1: Skeletor – Masters of The Universe

Red Skull might be the most baddass skull villain on Earth, but Skeletor is the maximun carnage of the universe. I mean, he is the archenemy of He-man, the most powerful motherfucker in the universe, and he leads a bunch of baddasses calling themselves “Masters of the Universe”!  The story of this awesome skull villain goes like this (lots of spoilers ahead); He is Kendor, the lost brother of King’s Randor, Adam (He-Man)’s father. His face was destroyed by corrosive liquid, about to die, he summoned Hordak, asking for help in return of anything. Hordak fixed his face into a yellow/greenish fluorescent skull and ask for his help conquering stuff.  Later he betrayed Hordak, and leaves to Ethernia, he wants the secrets of the Grey Skull Castle which will make him in the real Master of the Universe. Skeletor possesses an array of mystic powers and is an extremely powerful sorcerer with control over a vast range of dark magical powers, such as the ability to teleport himself and others over vast distances, send telepathic commands to his minions, grow plants, hypnotism, illusions, reflection, freezing rays, and open gateways between dimensions. He also possesses considerable scientific skill, creating various machines and devices, he also seems to be a highly skilled swordsman, wielding dual swords and taking on multiple opponents. Skeletor is usually armed with a magical weapon called the Havoc Staff, a long sceptre crowned with a ram’s skull with an embedded crystal ball. He can discharge bolts of mystic force from the head of the Staff, or use it as a focus for more powerful forms of magic. Skeletor has also displayed the ability to discharge energy from his own body… Damn!  I really believe hi is the ultimate skull villain!
